The iconic Hotel del Coronado is growing their team and looking for a Convention Services Manager!

Located on Coronado Island just minutes from Downtown San Diego, this 28-acre property was built in 1888 and has over 700 rooms (to include cottages and villas), 65,000 square feet of banquet space, and 10 food and beverage outlets. This includes 4 restaurants, 2 bars, food truck, marketplace, ice cream shop, and in-room dining.

A Manager, Convention Services hires, trains and directs the Banquet Set up staff in the planning and set up of all banquet space in order to ensure a successful function and repeat business.

What will I be doing?

  • Working with clients, guests, and hotel team members to ensure high quality and cleanliness standards of all event space (indoor, outdoors, as well as beach front), meeting rooms and pre-function space.
  • Supervises and conducts the set up, break down, and service of all event space.
  • Develops checklists and cleaning schedules to ensure proper cleanliness and maintenance of meeting space.
  • Interviews, trains, supervises, counsels, schedules and evaluates team.
  • As a Manager, Convention Services, you would be responsible for assisting in the planning, organization and execution of all banquet function event set ups in the hotel's continuing effort to deliver outstanding guest service and financial profitability. Specifically, you would be responsible for performing the following tasks to the highest standards:
  • Assist in the management of all Banquet operations to include, but not limited to, guest service standards and initiatives
  • Ensure equipment maintenance and show quality, maintain equipment inventory and organization, repair and maintenance, all equipment Is in good standing and working order, report damaged equipment, communicate equipment needs department management
  • Policy and procedure implementation and enforcement and meeting participation and facilitation
  • Supervises food and beverage set up and clean up
  • Assist in planning, organizing and executing all set ups for banquet functions including, but not limited to, breakfast, coffee breaks, luncheons, dinners, cocktail receptions, galas, etc.
  • Assist in monitoring and developing team member performance to include, but not limited to, providing supervision, scheduling, conducting counselling and evaluations and delivering recognition and reward
  • Greets clients and responds to guest requests in a timely, friendly and efficient manner
  • It is the primary responsibility of the Manager, Convention Services to oversee all aspects of day-to-day banquet set-up operations
  • Manages assigned operational functions within the department consistent with the strategic plan and vision for the department, the division and Hotel
  • Works closely with Director of Banquets, assist Catering and Events regarding servicing of events
  • Attends pre-cons, tie downs and preplanning meetings with Catering Managers and clients as required for upcoming groups
  • Manage Banquet Event Order contracts review utilizing: flow sheets creation to monitor (room-sets, daily refreshes, teardowns and ensure resets are taking place according to banquet event orders and set up standards)
  • Forecasts equipment needs using a 30, 60, 90 day projection to ensure supplies/tools are available to execute business pertaining to (tables, linen, staffing, skirts, clips, etc.) Inventories all equipment and supplies to ensure equipment is in acceptable condition for all functions and par stocks are maintained
  • Establishes standards and create turnover process to Set up staff to ensure (the set up staff can follow established porter guidelines regarding room set-ups utilizing the banquet event order operations board.)
  • Oversees the Assistant Managers and Leads and insures they are following department and hotel policies and procedures and adhering to the collective bargaining agreement
  • Manages the delivery and measurement of guest service within assigned department(s) consistent with the company’s core service standards and brand attributes
  • Provides input into the research, development, evaluation and implementation of new products, services, technology and processes to ensure the property’s competitive position and in anticipation of changing guest needs within the dynamic hospitality and gaming environment
  • Creates a work environment that promotes teamwork, performance feedback, recognition, mutual respect and employee satisfaction; quality hiring, training and succession planning processes that encompass the company’s diversity commitment; adherence to the company’s status quo third party representation philosophy; compliance with company policies, legal requirements and collective bargaining agreements
  • Creates weekly convention set up TMs schedule in accordance and compliance with the collective bargaining agreement
  • Works closely with Fire Department to ensure policies and regulations are met
  • Works with all departments to ensure all Health Code and Safety policies are adhered to
  • Practices and observes safety rules and regulations and encourages others to do the same
  • Performs all other relevant duties as assigned by upper management


Qualifications:

  • Three 3 years’ experience in a large convention center or banquet operations, in a position of at least assistant manager or senior supervisor
  • Two 2 years’ experience in event set-up
