JOB SUMMARY

The Director, User Experience is responsible for advancing a cohesive design strategy across new lines of business and digital experiences that drive company growth.

Partnering closely with designers and cross-functional team members, this role will manage multiple efforts related to enabling growth and cohesion across Marriott International’s various brands, products, and experiences. This role focuses on creating and executing end-to-end digital experiences to drive business KPIs. The ideal candidate will be highly empathetic, collaborative and organized with meticulous attention to detail in creating

end-to-end digital experiences to drive business needs. He/she/they will connect the current state to the future, guiding teams to advance iteratively towards the future vision, in collaboration with peers and stakeholders.

This role is part of a dynamic team that conceives, advances and advocates for innovative design and brand differentiation across digital channels. This team, within the broader UX organization, focuses on all aspects of digital experiences to deliver holistic design driven by research and data validated through large-scale testing.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Education and Experience

  • 8+ years of relevant experience in Digital User Experience, Product design and/or Visual Design
  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in human-centered design, visual design or related major
  • A track record of delivering multi-channel experiences, bringing full design ecosystems to life
  • Deep expertise in leading hands-on UX projects from discovery through wireframes, agile iteration to version enhancements
  • Proven ability to lead and connect the current state to the future, guiding teams iteratively towards future vision
  • Proficiency in modern design tools like Sketch, Figma, InVision, and Adobe CC
  • Experience managing design team and/or agency partners
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Proven ability to foster relationship and lead/work with cross-functional teams in support of specific business priorities

CORE WORK ACTIVITIES

Demonstrating and Applying Discipline Knowledge:

  • Has experience creating/delivering design concepts, user journeys, and prototypes across platforms for desktop, mobile web, and app
  • Creates and directs execution across design workstreams
  • Leads hands on UX creation and direction to foster collaboration with multidisciplinary teams 
  • Identifies future opportunities by keeping up to date with human-centered design methodology, design trends and emerging technology
  • Thought leadership in providing recommendations based on research and industry best practices


Managing Work, Projects, and Policies

  • Provides accurate estimates as to needed time to complete work to feed project plans (and therefore personal deadlines)
  • Successfully manages multiple tracks of work at once
  • Accepts critique and critiques work of others in a helpful and professional manner


Leadership & Management

  • Ability to manage one or more direct reports
  • Leads work done by both internal associates and external vendors
  • Attract, hire, develop, and retain top talent
  • Thinks and works at both the strategic and executional levels; sees both the “forest” and the “trees” and guides teams accordingly
  • Communicate to stakeholders how digital experience impacts and drives business forward


Additional Responsibilities

  • Works and leads independently with minimal supervision, but knows when issues should be escalated to manger
  • Develops relationships with members of other teams, and leverages those relationships to answer questions
  • Presents work with clarity and confidence; explains complex matters so that others can understand them
