JOB SUMMARY

As a senior member of the Global Design team, the Senior Director, Design Management will provide strategic functional management in support of the development, design execution, and growth of the EDITION hotels globally. This role has responsibility for the successful architectural and interior design delivery of new build and renovation projects, within established budgets, schedules, and brand quality standards. This role will also interface and collaborate closely with EDITION Creative Directors and key internal stakeholders (e.g., Development, Brand, F&B, Operations and Owner & Franchise Services) and external owners and design consultants maintaining open and trusted lines of communication and skillfully balancing the needs of all stakeholders.

This individual will be a well-rounded design professional who excels in design leadership, communication and cultivating professional relationships, embraces continual improvement and has balanced expertise across the innovative, technical and business sides of design.

EXPECTED CONTRIBUTIONS

  • Manage the successful execution of EDITION projects globally from design through to project completion.
  • Work closely with EDITION Creative Directors, Global Design team, Operations, F&B, owners, and external consultants to ensure alignment of design through all project phases.
  • Review architectural and interior design submittals, coordinate closely with internal EDITION/Global Design stakeholders, and provide constructive feedback for outside owners and consultants.
  • Participate in the turn-over process related to hotel openings, in collaboration with the opening teams, DAM and operations to ensure a successful handover/opening.
  • Escalate deviations in project scope, schedule and budget with the appropriate communication and involvement of senior management.
  • Partner with design management to keep stakeholders current on project design, cost and schedule updates. Provide early identification of risks on projects and develop action plans to mitigate exposure to the company.
  • Collaborate with EDITION Creative Directors and project team in the pursuit of innovative and creative design solutions that reflect the EDITION brand experience. 
  • Lead various design initiatives as required in collaboration with the EDITION team.
  • Actively use MI technology platforms to monitor project progress through to completion.
  • Recommend changes to policies and practices as may be required to respond to a changing environment.
  • Champion excellence in business ethics and integrity, social responsibility, cross-cultural effectiveness, and associate engagement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet business needs.
  • Significant international travel will be required.


CANDIDATE PROFILE

Key Skills/Requirements:

  • Minimum 12 years of experience in the disciplines of architecture or interior design with a strong focus on hospitality.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in a design leadership role.
  • In depth knowledge of lodging development, interior design, architectural design, and construction and able to take a leadership role in the development of design planning, due diligence, design execution.
  • Ability to sell ideas persuasively; settles differences and wins concessions without damaging relationships; can be both direct and forceful while remaining diplomatic.
  • Operates with an open, collaborative approach to foster strong relationships and ensure key stakeholders’ priorities are considered and balanced.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to formulate creative solutions for complex design challenges, mitigating risk and maximizing stakeholder satisfaction.
  • Ability to work in a matrix organization and make things happen without having to own all of the resources; leverages shared resources to achieve results.
  • Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing; listens to others and effectively comprehends information; can operate across cultures effectively and respectfully; creates an environment allowing timely information flows throughout the organization.
  • Results oriented; delivers results under difficult conditions and demonstrates balanced judgment under pressure.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Required Education and Professional Certification:

  • Baccalaureate degree in architecture or interior design.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Licensure as Architect or Interior Designer preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of experience and/or education may be considered.

  • Consideration may be given to locations other than New York city, but frequent presence in New York city in addition to global business travel will be required.


Colorado Applicants Only : The salary range for this position is $123,975.00 to $250,016.00 annually.

New York City & Westchester County, NY Applicants Only : The salary range for this position is $150,011.00 to $275,021.00 annually.
