JOB SUMMARY: 

Reporting to the CTO, the VP of Enterprise Architecture serves as the senior technology architect for the organization. The senior leader is responsible to craft the enterprise architecture strategy, technology governance, and an execution framework to build out a practitioner-led Enterprise Architecture practice. Manages the day-to-day enterprise architecture team including change control, risk, and new technologies.   Works with service providers, business partners, and IT leadership in technology planning.  Implements and maintains enterprise architecture tools to promote compliance with standards and processes.  Ensures service providers are meeting the appropriate levels of service delivery and providing notice when it may not be met.

CANDIDATE PROFILE 

Education and Experience

Required:

  • 15+ years of progressive leadership in solutions, data, or technical architecture with a minimum of 5 years at a VP/Sr. Director level
  • Ten year’s recent experience in developing and leveraging current and emerging technologies across IT platforms.
  • Ten year’s recent experience with architectural frameworks and the various approaches to the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
  • Direct management of complex budgets in excess of $20M direct and/or indirect costs
  • Direct management of cross functional, sourced, or matrixed teams


Preferred:

  • Undergraduate/graduate degree (e.g. Management Information Systems, Computer Sciences)
  • Applications development experience
  • Demonstrated success leading medium- to large-scale initiatives/transformations across enterprise platforms
  • Proven executive experience in IT development across waterfall and agile environments
  • Experience with and significant knowledge of IT outsourcing activities in a managed services environment
  • Proven knowledge of all aspects of the IT functional areas
  • Strong negotiation, influencing and problem resolution skills
  • Proven ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
  • Experience in business systems and process planning
  • Knowledge of business environment, service requirements and culture
  • Demonstrated ability to assess customer/client needs, creatively approach solutions, decide and influence appropriate courses of action
  • Deep understanding of IT financial structures and ability to manage to corporate financial practices and goals - including drivers of process costs
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to articulate complex ideas in easy to understand business terms
  • Ability to present ideas in business-friendly and user-friendly language
  • Strong client service orientation
  • Team-oriented, collaborative leadership skills
  • Ability to accomplish results through others, particularly by establishing relationships, effective controls and monitoring processes

CORE WORK ACTIVITIES                                                                                

Managing The Day-To-Day Enterprise Architecture

  • Leads the internal governance processes for technology
  • Participates in the creation and maintenance of IT’s business strategy and planning to include:
    • Builds Marriott Growth Platform Architecture runway
    • Assists in the Technology for the Travel Innovation Platform
  • Interfaces with Service Provider(s) in development of the annual technology planning
  • Communicates technology direction and strategy within IT and with the business as directed by Business Process & Planning
  • Drives the business and operational viability of enterprise architecture service levels
  • Defines, manages, and improves architecture service level reporting
  • Improves and optimizes service delivery performance
  • Enhances information security compliance and operational reliability and flexibility
  • Keeps abreast of emerging technology and business process trends within the industry and identifies and communicates ways to adopt into Marriott’s technology ecosystem
  • Emphasizes accuracy and effectiveness of estimating and planning management with team
  • Manages day-to day relationships with all IT teams to ensure the delivery of services meets or exceeds the business’s expectations
  • Manages critical architecture issues that cross organizational boundaries
  • Communicates important policy changes that affect service provider and/or business operations
  • Participates in business portfolio and demand management processes, and actively engage service providers to ensure client satisfaction


Implementing and Maintaining Enterprise Architecture Tools and Methodologies

  • Builds, maintains, implements, and monitors an architecture risk assessment/management process
  • Shifts role of Enterprise Architecture organization to become more practitioner-led (hands on) in solutioning
  • Develops and enforces IT-related and corporate standards and policies, improving upon those through metrics definition and reporting
  • Defines Technology Governance committee and processes
  • Facilitates project compliance with defined enterprise architecture processes


Ensuring Service Providers Meet Appropriate Levels Of Service Delivery

  • Ensures the service provider(s) performs the services agreed to by the master services agreement in a manner that is consistent with both the spirit and the letter of the agreement
  • Facilitates IT team and service provider compliance with enterprise architecture agreements
  • Builds and maintains a standard set of enterprise architecture tools and processes that will provide the right level of governance for all IT teams
