We are LEGOLAND California Resort - the place where FUN is built and memories are made. Across our Resort we have two fantastic LEGO themed Hotels, a Water Park, a SEA LIFE Aquarium, more than 60 rides and attractions, 20 food and beverage locations, and 14 retail stores – the opportunities here are endless!

Scope and Responsibilities:

With the supervision of the SEA LIFE Operations and Sustainability Assistant Manager and wider SEA LIFE Education leadership within Merlin, develops and implements educational content to be delivered in the aquarium, upholding the SEA LIFE vision of providing memorable experiences and delivering fun learning to all ages that will increase knowledge and inspire appreciation of the ocean and its creatures, and encourage action to help protect them for future generations.

·          Must have a passion for biodiversity and marine sustainability.

·          Have excellent communication skills, high levels of energy and the ability to remain calm under pressure.

·          Delivers educational programs consisting of the following key elements:



·         Possess the ability to adapt educational content to various target audiences with a range of formal and informal activities developed and delivered by individual sites in line with their regional requirements and SEA LIFE’s Education Policy.

·          Trains and works alongside the Education staff to use interpretive techniques to educate guests throughout the aquarium.

·          Partners with LEGOLAND Park Education team to incorporate SEA LIFE experiences into school group visits.

·          Collaborates with SEA LIFE’s regional Education Manager on various projects and programs.

·         Collaborates with SEA LIFE’s Curator to ensure all content is accurate and corresponds with SEA LIFE brand. 

·          Assists in implementing conservation programs and initiatives in the community. 

·          Is expected to uphold high SEA LIFE operating standards of safety, service, presentation and efficiency.

·          Assists with the SEA LIFE reptile ambassador program.  Comfortable with handling animals, including snakes, and can follow and train proper animal handling procedures and protocols.

·          Ensures standard operating procedures are followed at all times.

·          Able to handle crowd control, guest questions, and guest recovery as well as other operational issues as they arise.

·          Is comfortable speaking in public both in a one-on-one setting and to large groups in a show setting.

·          Can communicate any facility requirements, safety issues or staffing issues to the necessary department or management to help ensure issues are resolved.

·          Works closely with other departments at SEA LIFE to create a positive, cohesive work environment.

·          Encourages and supports new and innovative ideas from all team members.

·         Must possess the ability to work independently and in a group setting as needed.

·         May have additional tasks assigned on occasions by the SEA LIFE operations and sustainability assistant manager.

Education:

High School diploma required. Four-year degree in Science or Education is preferred. Informal education training is preferred. 

Background and Experience:

·         Prior experience in the education field preferred.

·         Minimum of 3 years of experience working in an education position.

·         Prefer prior experience in a zoo, aquarium, or informal learning settings.

·         Animal handling experience preferred. 

·         Must have flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

·         Must be comfortable talking to groups of people and able to become media trained.

·         Requires self-efficiency and organization.

·         Requires excellent skills in guest service.

·         Self-motivated and demonstrates initiative.

·         Excellent writing skills.

·         Proficiency in Microsoft and web-based systems

·         Has strong attention to detail.

·         Is a team player and works well within a diverse team.

·         Able to support the diversity and inclusion Merlin initiatives.

 

Health and Safety:

Employees are responsible for the safety of themselves, their colleagues and guests (where appropriate), in line with the Group Policy (HS001) and the law. In particular, they must ensure that they follow safe working procedures for all work activities that they undertake, and they must not use any tools or equipment for which they have not been trained.  Where incidents do occur, they must ensure that they are reported to their line manager and must cooperate with any investigation as appropriate. SEA LIFE Exhibit interpreters are responsible for upholding SEA LIFE’s high safety standers and ensuring that safety polices are adhered to at all times by guests.

-Ability to keep hands and arms in salt and freshwater for long periods of time while interacting with guests.
