Job Summary

The Courtyard Marriott San Francisco Downtown Van Ness is seeking an energetic and strong leader to be our next General Manager and to join our team.  Located in the heart of the downtown San Francisco, this historic hotel recently underwent a multi-million dollar renovation and launched as a Marriott Courtyard.  The new design combines the best of the hotel’s historic landmark design with custom contemporary sophistication. 

We’re excited to have you come join and shape our incredible team and hotel!  The General Manager oversees all aspects of the hotel and works directly with experienced and supportive owners and reports directly to the President of Hotel Operations.  The GM manages all hotel employees and oversees the hotel’s guest services, housekeeping and engineering operations, sales and revenue management as well as manages the relationship with our third party branded restaurant, the well-known Mel’s Drive In restaurant chain. 

The following responsibilities are some of the essential tasks but this does not limit the tasks that may be assigned. 

• Strong Communication skills
• Lead by example to maintain a positive environment and culture- A “Can Do” Attitude is essential
• Coach and counsel when needed
• Familiarity with hotel systems (including PMS, Yield Management, etc.)
• Understanding P&L and financials aspect of the operation
• Experience overseeing Front Office, Engineering and Housekeeping operations
• Participate in sales efforts including prospecting and responding to leads
• Effectively manage labor hours and payroll
• Oversee accounting operations including the processing of invoices
• Conduct weekly room inspections and identify areas for improvement
• Stay current and ensure team is current with brand trainings and requirements
• Ensure proper training is in place and checklists are followed
• Respond to guest surveys
• Prepare performance reviews for team leaders and ensure team leaders complete reviews for team members
• Strong proficiency with MS Office including Excel, Word and Outlook

The successful candidate must possess:

• Significant proven leadership experience as a General Manager or #2 position in a hotel
• Must have 5 years in senior hotel positions
• Brand experience preferred, i.e. Marriott, Hilton, IHG, Hyatt, etc.
• Prior Marriott/Courtyard experience and familiarity with FOSSE is a great additional benefit
