The Role

Responsibilities

We have an exciting opportunity in our Corporate Information Systems Technology department for a Desktop Support Specialist. The position will involve the provision of PC and network support services, as well as application software support and training services to our Sales and Corporate offices. Duties include PC hardware installation and configuration, OS and application software installation, network administration, troubleshooting and "plug and play" hardware repairs. In addition, the successful applicant will possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills and have an aptitude for problem solving, as well as the ability to work flexible hours.

Position Outline:

Desktop Support

  • Assist staff users in maximizing the usage of desktop technology by providing general software and hardware helpdesk ticketing support and training assistance.

  • Second level support for Desktop Operating Systems – Windows 10, Mac OS Big Sur & Monterey, use of all desktop applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Visio and Adobe Acrobat.

  • Liaise with People and Culture on all staff On/Off-Boarding process including computer provisioning and training

  • Create and maintain strong relationships with all end users and assist them in improving their overall productivity.

  • Implement/Configure and maintain the departmental standards for desktop, laptop and peripherals including documentation

  • Maintain corporate software/hardware assets inventory management

  • Implement/Configure Print Server for standalone printers, integration of Xerox Multifunction Copiers with XWC Cloud & Capture Point Scanning via local Virtual Machine setups.

  • Provide support for server, desktop, laptop and printer issues at WSO offices and remote offices including documentation

  • Responsible for creating new desktop/laptop Hard Drive images and ensuring existing equipment setup procedures are up-to-date and accurate

  • Responsible for implementing standard desktop software (O365 Apps and other specific departmental software – Sun6, Auto CAD, Adobe Acrobat, Workshare, etc.)

  • Perform one-on-one computer training and group/class training (when required) for general and customized applications

  • Assist in any Hardware Return Material Authorized (RMA) related activities, including placing service calls, arranging on-site service, record keeping and shipping handling.

  • Mobile device Company mail setup and activation using AirWatch MDM Console



Network Support

  • Assist Manager of Corporate Information Technology and Network Administrator with daily administration of the local network

  • Active Directory administration including customizing group policy management, scripting, and maintenance

  • Coordinate with changes to data network diagram(s) and network jack location/update



Data Integrity & Security

  • Daily maintenance of add/update/remove user accounts at Corporate Office & WSO's including administration

  • Assist with corporate data restoration requests when assigned through corporate helpdesk

  • Review available Microsoft Windows Updates, using Desktop Central client to push patches and applications for Corporate staff computers

  • Responsible for ensuring all systems are running the latest Corporate anti-virus software, Forcepoint web-proxy client, and all other end point protect software

  • Participating PCI Requirement Meetings for in-scope networks and take necessary actions to keep devices and environment PCI Compliant



Training

  • Deliver and coordinate training to computer preparation contractors (when hired) for special volume contract work

  • Provide Corporate Manager of IT with feedback/comments on contractors so adjustment can be made

  • Facilitate On-Boarding training for new staff on standard Corporate software, system Authentication/access, VPN operations and other general computer systems operations



Project Assistance

  • Assist with yearly Capital budgeting preparation for desktop, laptop and standard specifications

  • Assist Manager of Corporate Information Technology with purchase, configuration, and implementation of computer hardware and software, according to defined standards on IST technology lifecycle management program

  • Provide assistance as required with other IST related projects



Professional qualifications: A++ Certification, Microsoft Windows MCSA, MCSE certification preferred.

Education: Diploma or Degree in Computer Science/Computer Engineering or equivalent amount of education and work experience

Experience:

Minimum of 2 years hands on experience working in a fast-paced environment in the role as Desktop Specialist.

Microsoft Office 365 Administration certification/experience is required.

Travel: Yearly support visits to the Worldwide Sales offices are required.

Technical Skills and Knowledge

  • Knowledge of common desktop applications and desktop suites including: Windows 10 and Microsoft O365 Local Apps, Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, Adobe Acrobat.

  • Knowledge in Mac Big Sur & Monterey O/S configuration and operations.

  • Understanding of Windows Active Directory, Group Policy, File-Sharing setup.

  • Knowledge of Cloud based applications including: O365, AWS Workspaces.

  • Strong understanding of Windows Server 2012/2016/2019 OS & components

  • Good knowledge and understanding of desktop applications and operating systems

  • Experience with computer hardware/software set up.

  • Effective trouble shooting skills
