Sitting within the Commercial Team, the role of the Commercial Manager (known internally as Bed Trading Manager)  is accountable for delivering our bed strategy for Ski, Lakes and Mountains bed stock across the Northern Region (UK, Ireland and Nordics),  supporting our colleagues in TUI Nordics. You will take ownership & be responsible for the recovery and trading of over £40million of committed bed risk. This role requires excellent communication, collaboration and negotiation skills in order to ensure bed availability is being optimised and revenues are maximised across the two source markets.  

You will lead the Bed Trading team to ensure that we offer the accommodation that reflects our customer’s demands, allowing us to maximise load factor and margin performance, directly impacting our Trading results. You will build and maintain strong relationships with our accommodation suppliers to ensure that we retain our contracted bed stock up until day of departure. You will ensure the team proactively manage strong performing stock, securing additional beds in properties and dates where we may have sold out.

ABOUT THE JOB

  • Lead a team of Bed Trading Executives to deliver our bed strategy, coaching and motivating the team to achieve set targets, stepping in to support where risk is identified. 
  • Ensure the Bed Trading team work to best practices and process as they procure additional stock, challenge stop sales and manage extra allocation requests 
  • Ensuring that we have the right volumes of bed stock on sale, to meet the requirements of our charter flight capacity and maximise load factors. 
  • Engage stakeholders in Trading, Purchasing and Product teams and collaborate to ensure the maximum profitability of each destination. 
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships between Crystal Ski & TUI Nordic and manage the relationship using your business knowledge and expertise to ensure that there is saleable bedstock across all markets & revenues are maximised.  
  • Understanding the demands of our customers to ensure we have the stock that matches their requirements. 
  • Negotiate with accommodation suppliers to secure additional beds and push back release dates where required to ensure the best possible supplier support. 
  • Challenge suppliers on stop sales  to ensure we retain beds where needed.  
  • Identify risks to our bedding position, with particular focus on our committed bed risk, and take action to reduce 
  • Evaluation of each unit, resort and country to identify areas of poor financial performance and recommend remedial action. 
  • Provide key insights and recommended actions for Destination & Trading Meetings. 


ABOUT YOU

  • Due to nature of the role, you will be fluent in English and German 
  • Excellent communicator confident in dealing with challenging situations within an environment of ambiguity and a high degree of complexity
  • Strong negotiation skills  and previous experience of managing supplier relationships
  • Excellent numerical and analytical skills with a high level of attention to detail is essential 
  • Good commercial acumen that allows you to assess situations, understand the commercial impact and make decisions using sound judgement 
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to liaise and challenge where necessary at senior levels, both internal and external. Previous experience with spreadsheets and pricing systems
  • Previous price and yield management experience is desirable
  • Creative and forward thinking with commercial awareness
  • A strong and inquisitive attitude by nature 
  • Strong organisational skills with ability to prioritise effectively in time-sensitive, multi-task environments. A hands-on team manager with the ability to motivate, stimulate and develop a team.
