The Senior Director, Solutions Architect will be accountable for the thought leadership, strategy, and direction of Commercial Technology that supports the priorities and strategies within the Commercial organization.  They will work in close collaboration with Digital Product Owners, IT Platform Owners, In-house Engineering teams and Third-party vendors to analyze, design, plan and implement a technology roadmap that enables Four Seasons to be the world’s most guest-centric, digitally driven luxury hospitality brand.  The candidate thrives between understanding the business value to solving deep technical issues and will be responsible for defining the architecture strategies, frameworks, and governance processes that unlock enterprise-wide capabilities at scale. 

This role is based in Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, Toronto Corporate Office, reporting to the VP, Commercial Technology.

Key Activities

Strategy and Business Plan

  • Responsible for leading and defining the global technical strategy, design, roadmap, and systems integration of the technology stack to support Commercial strategy, objectives and desired experiences across Digital Channels, Brand Marketing, CRM, Retail, Data and Analytics, and Distribution.

  • Focused on delivering exceptional Guest and Staff experiences that drive revenue and operational efficiencies.

  • Conducts market research on latest technology trends to expand capabilities, and plans “Proof of Concept” to assess fit for purpose and needs.

  • Has in depth knowledge and understanding of competitive products, services, and trends within the luxury brand and hospitality industry

  • Continually pursues new business opportunities and takes quick action to make them a reality



Architecture                       

  • Authors architectural blue-print designs that builds capabilities to enable enriched analytics, personalization, and work process automation across Four Season’s omnichannel experience platforms (e.g., web, mobile, email, staff facing service platforms)

  • Works with IT Leadership to define an enterprise-wide technology approach that encompasses multiple systems and various integration points that will meet business goals and objectives.

  • Leads and participates in the development of architecture strategies, frameworks, and governance processes.

  • Translates the commercial business objectives and requirements into solutions design.

  • Establishes a 3-year technology roadmap and architecture design across all Commercial Technologies

  • Collaborates with IT leaders to evolve the enterprise-wide capabilities (i.e. Integration, Data and Analytics)

  • Ensures products are compliant with technology architecture and design/operational processes.   

  • Provides ongoing review of in-progress activity against technology architecture and development standards

  • Advocates for data protection, privacy and security ensuring that it is designed into all solutions



Products, People and Culture

  • Provides strategic and technical advice as the subject matter expert across key Commercial Technologies

  • Collaborates with internal and external cross-functional teams to solve problems and implement new solutions that are aligned with the commercial strategy and the products’ roadmaps.

  • Supports resource planning and allocation across the platform teams to ensure the team has the right capacity and capabilities to achieve its vision

  • Creates a continuous learning environment, identifying ways to learn from one another to strengthen the team’s bond and sense of ownership

  • Builds best practices and training to further technical mastery across the organization

  • Drives the organization toward greater enterprise agility through identifying and partnering with other departments to address technology impediments

  • Mentor, nurture and develop internal skills across platform owners and technical resources to further advance their experience to become SMEs beyond their areas of responsibility.



Desired Skills

  • Proven track record in establishing the architectural vision within a business and technical domain

  • Ability to quickly break down ambiguous business requirements into technical solutions no matter the context.  The skill to identify risks/root causes at pace and synthesize a future proof solution.

  • Skilled in the ability to communicate complex challenges, risks and options analysis that drives stakeholders’ alignment. 

  • A proven ability to lead, influence and develop others in a cross functional environment

  • Delivers results while managing multiple priorities with lean resources in a dynamic and ever-changing environment; resilient and can operate autonomously

  • Knowledge of front-end and back-end development across Web, Mobile app and eCommerce technologies including but not limited to Azure, AWS, Adobe, and Shopify

  • Knowledge in utilizing Analytics capabilities including but not limited to Adobe, Azure, Google, and Power BI

  • Knowledge of business transformation mythology and practices including business processes and value stream mapping

  • Familiar with global accessibility and privacy laws an asset (i.e. ADA, AODA, WCAG, GDPR, CASL, CCPA, PIPL)

  • Strong verbal, written, presentation and interpersonal skills are required



Technical Skills

  • Knowledge with Agile (Confluence, Monday.com, Jira)

  • Knowledge with Cloud (AWS, Azure)

  • Consumer Data and Analytics knowledge including Adobe, Azure, Data Bricks, Informatica, and Power BI

  • eCommerce and Retail platforms including Shopify, Payment Gateways, and Yellow Dog

  • Experience working with Enterprise Integrations such as Azure

  • Experience working with Marketing platforms including Adobe Experience Manager, Marketing Cloud, Salesforce, and Zendesk

  • Experience with Hotel Systems including Amadeus, Oracle, and Sabre

  • Experience with Testing, Observability and Helpdesk tools including Dynatrace, ServiceNow, and TestRail



Experience, Education and Professional Qualifications

  • 10-15+ years of experience in Digital or Marketing Technologies including Website, Mobile Apps, CRM/CDP, Social, Programmatic, PMS, and Distribution

  • Experience working across global functional teams with diverse profile of people, processes, and priorities

  • Experience in delivering with global internal and external product teams while leveraging Agile/Scrum methodologies

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in a Business or IT discipline (Computer Science).  MBA would be considered an asset
