JOB SUMMARY

Scope of Position
The Executive Director of Catering & Events functions as the strategic business leader of Event Management, including the departments of Event Services, Banquets, and Catering. This position oversees the development and implementation of departmental strategies and ensures implementation of the brand service strategy and brand initiatives. He/she has overall responsibility for executing all property events with a seamless turnover from sales to operations and back to sales consistently delivering a high level of service. Ensures the team meets the brand’s target customer needs, ensures associate satisfaction, focuses on growing event revenues, and maximizes the financial performance of the department. As a member of the Executive Committee, develops and implements property-wide strategies that deliver products and services to meet or exceed the needs and expectations of the brand’s target customer and property associates and provides a return on investment to the owner and Marriott International.

Responsibilities
• Researches and analyzes new products, pricing, and services of competition.
• Oversee Event Operations including Banquets, Catering and Event Services.
• Oversee event planning team (BEO/Resume).
• Ensures the property is apprised of all groups that will impact property operations.
• Leads the execution of brand service initiatives in event management areas.
• Conduct site inspections as required.
• Must work closely with the Director of Sales to prepare monthly forecasts.
• Develops an Event Management strategy that is aligned with the brand’s business strategy and leads it execution.
• Ensure meeting and function rooms are properly maintained at all times. Liaise with Food and Beverage outlets with regards to reservations and flow of clients.
• Responsible for establishing and maintaining rapport with clients, prior to, during and post conference, exceeding their expectations and encouraging repeat business.
• Develops working relationships with outside vendors and establishes prices and service agreements to enhance the event experience and to increase additional revenue opportunities for the property.
• Participate in the required meetings with business strategic business partners including but not limited to forecast meetings, resume meetings, manager meetings, etc.
• Expedite function bookings; prepare resumes, event contracts, etc. 
• Compilation and distribution of conference agendas and event orders.
• Recruit, interview, and hire associates; conduct performance appraisals, coach, and counsel, perform progressive corrective action, motivate, develop, and train.
• Coordinate training for all department individuals for best carrying out their responsibilities and duties.
• Works with Human Resources to ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal (OSHA, Health Department) regulations.
• Reviews property specific event operations annually and makes appropriate adjustments.
• Reviews staffing levels to ensure that guest service and operational needs are met.
• Perform any other reasonable duties as requested by senior management.

Position Requirements
• Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Senior Catering & Events Manager or Food and Beverage Manager in a luxury environment.
• Knowledge of Meeting Matrix, CI-TY, Excel, Word, and Micros system.
• Must have proven leadership, organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.

• Must be effective at handling problems in the workplace, including anticipating, preventing, identifying, and solving problems as necessary.
• Must have the ability to assimilate complex information, data, etc. from disparate sources and consider, adjust, or modify to meet the constraints of a particular need.
• Must be effective at listening to, understanding, and clarifying the concerns raised by associates and guests.
• Must be able to work with and understand financial information and data, and basic arithmetic functions.

Education
• 4-year University/College degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management, Hospitality, Business Administration, or related major.
OR
• Five plus years of experience in event management, food and beverage, or related professional area.

Skills and Abilities
• Ability to communicate in the English language. Second language is a plus. 
• Ability to work flexible schedules including holidays and weekends and able to perform multiple tasks. 
• Able to work with and understand financial information and data, and basic arithmetic functions.
• Experience using computers and software programs such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
